The Applet

This Java tool visualises the jobs currently running. The applet displays all jobs that are submitted through the Resource Brokers displayed. These Resource Brokers are being monitored directly through a mySQL database connection. We have also tested monitoring through R-GMA. Since this information is continually updated, job movement around the world map is seen in real time, along with changes in status.

The monitor displays all jobs currently submitted to the LCG via the resource brokers monitored. Jobs that have finished but not been cleared will automatically cease to be monitored after 2 hours.

The monitor can only show jobs that are being managed by monitored Resource Brokers. If you would l ike your RB to be monitored, please email us.

If you are having problems with the applet not showing or freezing, then it may be the memory limit imposed on applets. This is increasingly likely as the applet holds information on all the jobs on the Grid, and this is now in excess of 50,000. Please see this page on how to increase the applet's memory for IE. Under Mac OS X you can run "Java Preferences" and under Linux you can run "$JAVA_HOME/bin/ControlPanel", to do the same thing.

You can get the applet embeded in a web page (rather than launching a new window) - ideal for public demos. You cannot switch Tasks once launced.

Using the Applet

The different maps displaying the different types of information and the different regions are available via the Tasks tab in the applet window.

Controls for the Job Monitor maps

Hovering the mouse over a site or a resource broker will show summary information. If you click when over a site, more detailed information will be displayed in a popup window. Statistics are shown in the red bordered key area. Clicking in this box will reveal controls to which jobs are shown; jobs can be limited by Resource Broker and/or Virtual Organisation.

Controls for the Phedex Monitor information

Hovering the mouse over a site will show the total number of incoming and outgoing transfers and related statistics. Hovering the mouse over a transfer line will show information about that transfer. Clicking on a site will provide more detailed information about each transfer to and from that site. Overal statistics are shown in the red bordered key area. Transfers are represented visually with the number of moving triangles proportional to the number of files and the speed of the triangles proportional to the rate of transfer.
